FAQs
Is this trip legal for U.S. travelers?
Yes. This experience operates fully under the U.S. Department of Treasury’s “Support for the Cuban People” travel category (31 CFR §515.574).
Every BTI itinerary is designed to engage directly with Cuba’s independent artists, small businesses, and community projects — ensuring that all travel activities meet OFAC compliance standards. You’ll receive documentation of your travel purpose and participation for your records.
What does “Support for the Cuban People” mean?
It means your trip is structured to benefit private citizens, not the Cuban government.
You’ll dine at privately owned paladares (restaurants), stay in boutique accommodations, shop with local artisans, and connect with community entrepreneurs — every activity uplifts and invests directly in the Cuban people.
Do I need a visa to enter Cuba?
Yes — but it’s easy.
You’ll need a Cuban Tourist Card (Visa), which can typically be purchased through your airline or BTI’s travel partner before departure. We’ll provide detailed instructions during the booking process to make this step smooth and stress-free.
Can I use my U.S. credit or debit cards in Cuba?
No. Most U.S. financial institutions don’t process transactions in Cuba.
We recommend bringing cash (USD or EUR), which can be exchanged locally upon arrival. Your BTI pre-departure guide will outline suggested cash amounts and best practices for safe, seamless spending.
Is Cuba safe for travelers?
Absolutely.
Cuba is one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean, known for its warmth, hospitality, and community spirit. We travel with licensed local guides and vetted partners who prioritize your comfort and well-being at every step.

Will I have internet or cell service in Cuba?
Internet access in Cuba is improving, but it’s limited compared to other destinations.
Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and select public areas. We encourage guests to see this as part of the experience — a chance to slow down, unplug, and be fully present.
Can I travel solo and still join the group?
Absolutely.
Many of our guests travel solo and choose BTI for the connection, sisterhood, and shared purpose. Roommate matching is available, or you can request a private room for an additional fee.
How does BTI ensure authentic, ethical travel?
We partner exclusively with locally owned businesses and community-led initiatives. Each experience is designed to honor culture, create economic impact, and build genuine human connection — no tourist traps, no performative interactions.
How do I prepare for travel?
After you book, you’ll receive:
