FAQ

  • WHERE IS CAPE VERDE?

Cape Verde is an island nation in the Atlantic Ocean off the western coast of Africa.

The country is made up of multiple islands, each with its own landscapes and personality.

Our journey visits Santiago and Sal.

  • WHICH ISLANDS WILL WE VISIT?

    We'll visit two islands.

Santiago provides the cultural and historical foundation of our journey and is home to Praia and Cidade Velha.

Sal provides the coastal escape, with beaches, resort time and distinctive island landscapes.

  • WHAT AIRPORT SHOULD I FLY INTO?

Plan to fly into Nelson Mandela International Airport in Praia (RAI) on Santiago.

  • WHAT AIRPORT WILL I FLY HOME FROM?

You'll depart from Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID) on Sal.

This means you'll need an open-jaw/multi-city international airline ticket rather than a

    traditional round-trip ticket.

  • IS THE FLIGHT BETWEEN SANTIAGO AND SAL INCLUDED?

    Yes.

Your one-way domestic flight from Santiago to Sal is included in your BTI trip package.

Flight schedules are subject to airline operations and availability.

  • IS INTERNATIONAL AIRFARE INCLUDED?

    No.

International airfare to and from Cape Verde is not included.

  • CAN I COME BY MYSELF?

    Absolutely.

Many BTI travelers join our trips solo.

You can reserve a single-occupancy room or request roommate matching when available.

You do not need to bring someone with you to join the trip.

  • WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF BTI TRAVELERS?

Our community primarily attracts Black women 40+, although exact ages vary from trip to trip.

Our experiences are designed for travelers who value culture, connection, community and thoughtfully curated group travel.

  • WILL MEN BE ON THIS TRIP?

BTI experiences are woman-centered, but men are welcome when they are comfortable

    traveling within that environment.

  • HOW ACTIVE IS THIS TRIP?

This is a moderately active journey.

Travelers should be comfortable walking during cultural tours, navigating some uneven surfaces, getting in and out of transportation and moving through airports.

This is not an adventure or hiking-focused trip.

We've also intentionally incorporated downtime, particularly during the Sal portion of the journey.

  • WILL WE HAVE FREE TIME?

    Yes—and intentionally so.

We don't believe traveling with a group means every hour needs to belong to the group.

You'll have opportunities to relax, shop, enjoy your hotel or resort and explore independently.

The Sal portion has been deliberately designed with more downtime.

  • WILL THERE BE BEACH TIME?

    Absolutely.

That's one of the reasons we're going to Sal.

You'll have opportunities to enjoy the resort, beach and pool without needing to participate in an excursion every day.

  • WILL OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS BE AVAILABLE?

We anticipate offering optional activities during the Sal portion of the trip.

    Possible experiences may include:

    Catamaran sailing

    Snorkeling

    ATV or buggy excursions

    Water activities

    Additional island adventures

Optional experiences will be announced closer to departure and will be subject to availability and additional cost.

  • WHAT LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN IN CAPE VERDE?

Portuguese is the official language, and Cape Verdean Creole, commonly called Kriolu, is

    widely spoken.

English-speaking guides will be arranged for BTI's included touring experiences where

    appropriate.

  • WHAT CURRENCY IS USED?

The local currency is the Cape Verdean escudo (CVE).

BTI will provide updated information about money, ATMs, credit cards and tipping before departure.

  • WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE?

October is typically warm in Cape Verde, making lightweight, breathable clothing appropriate for much of the journey.

Because weather conditions can vary, BTI will provide updated destination-specific packing guidance closer to departure.

  • WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

Think island chic meets cultural exploration.

    You'll want:

    Lightweight clothing

    Comfortable walking shoes

    Sandals

    Swimwear

    Resort wear

    Sun protection

    A light layer

    Colorful dresses and prints

An elevated look for our farewell celebration

And leave a little room in the suitcase.

    We're going shopping.

BTI will provide a more detailed packing guide and style inspiration before departure.

  • DO I NEED A PASSPORT?

    Yes.

A valid passport is required for international travel to Cape Verde.

Travelers are responsible for ensuring their passports meet the entry requirements in effect at the time of travel.

  • DO I NEED A VISA?

Entry requirements depend on nationality and may change before 2028.

BTI will provide general entry guidance closer to departure, but each traveler remains

responsible for meeting all passport, visa, registration and entry requirements applicable to them.

  • DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?

    Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

We encourage travelers to purchase comprehensive coverage that addresses trip cancellation, interruption, medical emergencies, evacuation, baggage and other unforeseen circumstances.

Refer to BTI's current terms and conditions for applicable insurance requirements.

  • CAN I SKIP AN INCLUDED ACTIVITY?

    Generally, yes.

    This is your vacation.

However, group transportation will operate according to the scheduled program. Travelers who choose to skip an included activity are responsible for their own transportation and any alternative arrangements.

  • WHEN WILL I RECEIVE THE FINAL ITINERARY?

BTI provides detailed final travel information closer to departure once supplier schedules,

transportation and operating details have been finalized.
